Shane NY Weight Loss Resort and Camp offers a fun, supportive weight loss environment for kids, teens, and adults.
It seems like I have always struggled with my weight. My parents had no idea about healthy eating, having grown up in the post-depression and then post-war eras of saving and getting all you can.
Plus they were both from kosher Ashkanazi (Eastern European) jewish families, where meals revolved around rich noodle kugels, large challahs, vegetables cooked with shmaltz (chicken fat), and fattier cuts of meat or organ meat.
My mother would go to Weight Watchers and take me. But those were the most restrictive days of Weight Watchers, where calories were cut so much that the diet was not sustainable, so we would bounce up and down.
When I finally took “control” of my eating and exercise, I was about 12 or 13 years old. I started eating only 600 calories a day and exercising all the time. I lost weight, dropping down to 107 pounds.
But I couldn’t sustain that, and gained it all back plus more.
Back then there were scary “fat camps” where my friends’ parent would send them. Everyone would go, lose some weight, learn to scam snacks where they could because the food sucked, and then come home and gain it all back. Also useless.
So when I started researching Camp Shane – Weight Loss Camps I was already inclined to be negative.
But when I read what they do and how they do it, I realized that Shane is offering the same programs that spas like Canyon Ranch offer adults – a combination of cognitive therapy, great tasting and freshly prepared foods, and fun fitness. In fact, Shane also offers their programs to adults.
Here is a typical day’s menu:
The medical staff is board certified, and you can see on the Shane blog that their focus is health versus simply being skinny.
They have locations in Arizona, Georgia, Texas, California, and upstate New York.
Here is a video of Zumba classes at Shane, which look like a whole lot of fun!
